TRX City Park: 5 Fun Things To Do With Kids!

TRX City Park is a huge 10-acre park located on the level 3 rooftop, connected to The Exchange TRX Mall.

I don’t think KL needs another mall, but I was intrigued when I discovered that the rooftop park has a children’s outdoor playground and water sensory play area.

Best of all, entrance to the TRX City Park is FREE. Naturally, I was excited to check it out!

I’m happy to report back that there are actually a lot of things you can do at the TRX City Park with your little ones 🙂

1. Splash Away At The Central Water Play Area

Top of the list is having a fun splash at the central Water Play area! Almost every child I know LOVES playing with water.

There’s an interactive water fountain that’s perfect for your kids to play with and have a splash of fun.

Next to the water fountain are two interactive sensory zones shaped in spirals. There are toys attached there for kids to play with. Toddlers would especially love exploring the mechanism!

I would recommend changing them into swimming suits or bringing a change of clothes.

There is a changing room and shower facilities in the women’s and men’s restrooms. Remember to bring soap too because I didn’t see any available.

2. Slide, Crawl, And Climb In Play City

Inspired by traditional Malay kampung house architecture, Play City is designed for children to climb, crawl, and slide to their hearts’ content!

Some of the obstacles are challenging and would be more suited for older kids. The left side of the Play City is more suitable for younger toddlers.

I saw a sign warning that some of the slides are under direct sunlight. When it’s a hot and sunny day, the temperature on the slide might be too hot.

I recommend you touch it beforehand to ensure it’s safe for your kids to slide.

3. Rock Climb In The Play Cave

I was so intrigued by the design of the Play Cave! The slides go through the cave’s rocks, and there are plenty of nooks and crannies that kids can sit in.

As soon as you step into the Play Cave, you’ll notice that there are a few rock climbing areas. There are so many benefits to rock climbing for kids, including improving their motor skills!

Kids can climb the stairs above the rock climbing areas, cross the bridge, and even relax in the netting area.

On the other side, a beautiful waterfall cascades down the stairs. If you walk down the stairs with your little ones, get them to spot the statues of fish in the water!

However, be mindful that swimming is not permitted at the Play Cave Waterfall.

4. Unwind Along The Rooftop Forest Walk

When you or your kids need respite from the excitement in the Play areas, you can walk along the Forest Walk trail and unwind under the trees.

It’s much quieter along the trail and shaded with many bigger trees. When I visited, it was a super sunny and hot afternoon, but when I walked along the trail, it instantly felt cooler in that area.

I personally get overstimulated easily, and even my son gets anxious if there’s a big crowd in play areas.

So I was happy we found this spot where we got a break from other kids playing at the TRX Outdoor Playground!

5. Have A Picnic At The Sunlight Plaza

I love that there’s so much green space at the TRX City Park that’s perfect for a picnic if the weather permits!

The Sunlight Plaza is a sprawling garden, but as you can see, there’s little shade. I would wait for a cloudy or not-so-sunny day to have a picnic.

I recommend bringing a picnic mat to sit down to enjoy cool drinks and fresh pastries.

For toddlers, you can bring a ball and let them kick about and run around to burn off that toddler energy.

If you have babies, take advantage of the green space and let them do some earth-grounding barefoot. They usually find it soothing

Now that we’ve covered the top 5 things to do for kids in TRX City Park, let’s talk about a few common questions.

Is It Free To Enter TRX City Park With Kids?

Yes, entrance to the TRX City Park is free! You don’t need to pay anything to enter.

You just need to get yourself and the kids there 🙂

TRX Rooftop Park Opening Hours

Official TRX City Park hours are 7 AM – 10 PM.

You can access the park from the Exchange Mall car park or the Dining Terrace entrance along the right-hand side of the Raintree Plaza main facade.

When Is The Best Time To Go To TRX Outdoor Playground With Kids?

If you plan to bring the kids, I recommend going to TRX City Park on a weekday morning. Preferably, early on as the park is open from 7 AM onwards.

That way, they can have fun playing at the TRX Outdoor Playground while there are fewer people and the weather is still nice and cool in the morning.

When I went on a Monday afternoon, it was super hot and sunny. There are not many shaded areas or fans in the TRX City Park. So I highly recommend that you dress your kids in light and loose clothing!

When the mall restaurants open at 10 AM, you can have brunch! Kenny Hills On The Park has delicious brunch options, and you can be one of the first ones there.

Alternatively, if your kids are not early risers, go to the TRX Rooftop Park in the evening!

It would be a good idea to have an early dinner at 6 PM, then go to Rooftop Park.

You’ll catch the scenery changing at dusk, and the kids can enjoy watching the city lights start to go on all around TRX. Plus, the weather is much cooler then!

Is TRX City Park Stroller Friendly?

Technically yes, TRX City Park is stroller-friendly, but the signage is not obvious.

When you reach The Exchange Mall, take the lift to Level 3 to exit to the TRX Rooftop Park. When you walk out, you’ll see stairs leading up to the TRX Outdoor Playground area.

Opposite the stairs, you need to look for Lift A in front of the information center, which will take you up straight to the TRX Outdoor Playground level.

Are There Showers And Changing Rooms At TRX City Park?

Yes, there are showers and changing rooms at TRX City Park.

Inside the women’s and men’s restrooms are 2 shower stalls where you can change your kids’ clothes.

No soaps are available though, so make sure to bring your own!

Family Friendly Facilities At TRX City Park And The Exchange Mall

Like most malls, strollers are available for rent at The Exchange Mall, and nursing rooms are available on each floor.

Outside at the TRX City Park, I saw a few water fountains available and really appreciated that.

This one is shaped like a cactus! It blended really well with the greenery.

If you’re looking for a prayer space, there’s one in the Serene Garden (Laman Damai) at TRX City Park and another on the Concourse level of The Exchange Mall.

Where To Eat At The Exchange TRX Mall?

You are spoiled for choice regarding food options at The Exchange Mall!

My personal recommendation is Kenny Hills On The Park. We tried it ourselves and really enjoyed the food. Plus, it’s right by the TRX City Park entrance, giving you easy access.

They don’t have a kids’ menu, but I recommend the pizza. It’s delicious, and I guarantee your kids will love it.

There’s also a lot of fresh pastries available that you can take away! (Try the Nutella croissant)

I must warn you that there was a long line when we went. We waited for about 20 minutes or so. I recommend having one adult line up while the rest of your family can walk around first.

What To Bring To TRX Outdoor Playground With Kids

When visiting the TRX Outdoor Playground with kids, I recommend you bring these items to stay comfortable:

  • Swimwear
  • A change of loose and light clothing
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Portable fan

How To Get To TRX City Park With Kids?

You can drive, take the MRT train, walk, or Grab to TRX City Park (Grab is the Uber equivalent in Malaysia).

Drive To TRX City Park

If you’re driving, you can enter from Jalan Tun Razak or SMART Tunnel and follow the directions for TRX.

When parking, follow signs for The Exchange Mall. We made a mistake and went into The Exchange 106 parking instead, but there was a connecting walkway to The Exchange Mall that was a short walk away. Just look out for the signage 🙂

Take The Train To TRX City Park

If you’re planning to take the train, get on the MRT Sungai Buloh – Putrajaya line and get off at the TRX station.

Once you get off at the TRX station, look for Entrance A – Jalan Delima. The Exchange Mall is right across the MRT Entrance A exit.

Grab To TRX City Park

If you plan to take a Grab, I recommend having them drop you off at Exchange 106 Lobby.

The lobby is right across the TRX City Park events lawn, and you can easily walk to the outdoor playground from there.

Walk To TRX City Park

You can also walk to TRX from the Bukit Bintang area. From in front of Pavillion, head towards Jalan Gading, the road between Starhill and Fahrenheit88. Walk straight ahead until you reach the Raintree Plaza at TRX.

On the map, it’s about 700 meters (0.4 miles) apart so technically, it shouldn’t take too long, but with kids in tow, it might take you longer than 15 minutes.

If you do plan to walk, be prepared with hats or umbrellas as the weather can get really hot!

TRX Exchange Mall Parking Rates

TRX parking is one of the most expensive rates in KL compared to other malls.

But driving there is the most convenient option, especially if you have kids in tow with you!

For TRX City Park rates on weekends, the 1st hour is RM 3 (USD $0.65), and subsequent hours are RM 3 (USD $0.65) each.

On weekdays, the 1st hour is RM 5 (USD $1.10), and subsequent hours are RM 4 (USD $0.85) each.

On both weekdays and weekends, the maximum cap is RM 30 (USD $6.40).

However, entering between 5 PM to 5 AM is a flat rate of RM 10 (USD $2.15).
